One card solution to ease the use of terrestrial pay-TV services (24.08.2007)
Press release August 24, 2007
PlusTV and Canal Digital, the terrestrial pay-TV service providers, have agreed on a one card solution. It is now possible to order terrestrial pay-TV services from both PlusTV and Canal Digital to one pay-TV card. The one card solution, which will be in use from 1 September, makes it easier for customers to obtain and use pay-TV services from more than one operator.
All pay-TV licences granted by the Government include the requirement for one card as most digital television sets have only one card slot. The one card solution makes it easier for customers to obtain and use pay-TV services from more than one operator. From now on, customers do not have to obtain more than one card to view different pay-TV channels. Both PlusTV and Canal Digital use the same Conax encryption system, which makes the one card system possible.
- We have invested heavily in expanding our pay-TV service offering to terrestrial households in the last year. We are happy that we are finally able to offer a solution that enables television viewers to easily enjoy the abundant pay-TV offering in the terrestrial network, says Vesa Mars, Managing Director of PlusTV.
- We are pleased that the range of channels available on the terrestrial digital network is also expanding. It is great that after years of effort we have found a solution that enables customers to order pay-TV services on one card, says Jyri Timonen, Managing Director of Canal Digital.
With the one card solution, a subscriber can, for example, order terrestrial network services from Canal Digital on a PlusTV card in his use, and vice versa. Customers can subscribe to pay-TV services from another company, using just one card from 1 September 2007. The one card system will incur no extra costs to customers.
