PlusTV breaks the 250,000-customer mark (16.04.2008)

In November 2006, PlusTV started providing entertainment for TV viewers in Finnish terrestrial households. The PlusTV service has become the most popular pay-TV package for customers in terrestrial households in Finland. In April 2008, PlusTV celebrated its 250,000th pay-TV customer.

”The number of pay-TV subscribers will increase over the coming years. Our objective is to reach penetration of nearly 50 per cent in terrestrial households,” says Vesa Mars, CEO of PlusTV.

According to Finnpanel’s surveys, pay-TV has already achieved penetration of 26 per cent in Finnish TV households. The number of pay-TV subscribers has doubled over the last year. As analog TV transmissions ended in terrestrial households last autumn, a significant change took place in Finnish terrestrial households – people started to watch more versatile television. In particular, the use of pay-TV and the number of recording digital receivers increased. Up to 72 per cent of TV households own a digital receiver equipped with a pay-TV card slot.

”As we conducted the very first surveys concerning the Finnish pay-TV market before our launch in autumn 2006, the results were very different. At the time, pay-TV was regarded as something strange, exclusive sky channels,” remembers PlusTV’s CEO.

“We’ve launched something completely new onto the market that shapes the thinking of households,” he continues.

PlusTV has at present the most attractive pay-TV package in Finland. It includes 6 Finnish channels on exclusive basis in the terrestrial network: MTV MEDIA’s 4 pay-TV channels, MTV3 MAX (including Formula 1 live broadcasts), MTV3 Fakta, Sub Leffa and Sub Juniori, as well as the Finnish sports channel URHEILU+KANAVA and the entertainment channel DIGIVIIHDE. The exclusive channels are supported by 5 international channels: the world’s leading sport channel Eurosport, the documentary channel Discovery Channel, the world’s most famous music channel MTV, the children channel Nickelodeon and the Swedish SVT Europa.
